As most readers of Cha: An Asian Literary Journal will know, 1 July 2017 will mark the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover to China. This year also happens to be the tenth anniversary of our publication. And so while we are immensely proud of the work from and about Asia we normally publish, we felt that to commemorate these two events it was time to take a closer look at the city we call home and love: Hong Kong.

We are, therefore, proud to announce that in December 2017 Cha will be publishing a special “Writing Hong Kong” issue, focusing on writing and art on/about this great city. Submissions of poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction and art will open on 1 July 2017 and close on 30 September 2017. If you have something original to say about Hong Kong, we would like to hear from you. Please note that we can only accept submissions in English or translated into English.

Our Associate Editors Arthur Leung (poetry) and Royston Tester (prose) will be reading the submissions with the co-editors Tamara Ho and Jeff Zroback.

The Book Reviews section will be devoted exclusively to books related to Hong Kong. If you have a recent book that you think would be right for review in “Writing Hong Kong,” we encourage you to contact our Reviews Editor Eddie Tay at eddie@asiancha.com. Books should be sent to Eddie before 10 September 2017.  If you would like to propose to review a book, a film, an exhibition, etc., please write to Cha‘s co-editor Tamara Ho with your idea before 30 September 2017.

If you would like to have work considered for Cha’s “Writing Hong Kong” issue, please submit the work by email to submissions@asiancha.com by 30 September 2017. Please include “Writing Hong Kong” in the subject line of the email. Submissions to the issue should conform to our guidelines.

We are also currently accepting entries for the Cha International Poetry Prize 2017 (judges: Tamara Ho and Lucas Klein), in collaboration with PEN Hong Kong. The prize money in total is US$3201. No entry fee. The winning poems will be included in the “Writing Hong Kong” issue. Extended deadline: 30 November 2017.
